OUR REVIEWS
McQueeney, TX
McQueeney is a small town in Guadalupe County, Texas, and its history dates back to 1870 when it was founded as a settlement for German immigrants.
In 1876, when the Galveston, Harrisburg & San Antonio railroad was laid through the region, a stop was established and given the name “Hilda.” However, in 1900, a local merchant named C.F. Blumberg built a general store near the rail stop to persuade the railroad to relocate the stop to his store. To achieve this goal, he named the location “McQueeney” in honor of the local superintendent of the railroad. Despite his efforts, the railroad did not relocate the stop, but the post office that opened that year bore the name McQueeney.
McQueeney became famous for its lake, Lake McQueeney. The 7-mile-long lake was created in 1928 when the Guadalupe River was dammed to generate hydroelectric power. It’s a recreational spot where visitors can enjoy boating, fishing, and other water activities. Today, McQueeney is known as a recreational and retirement community, with many residents enjoying the lake and the town’s atmosphere.
In nearby San Antonio, visitors can explore the Mission San Antonio de Valero, better known as The Alamo. Tours are available. For those interested in the scenic Texas countryside, the Lyndon B Johnson National Historical Park is about an hour and a half drive. Here visitors learn about the nation’s former president.
